The GLS 450 features a six-cylinder, twin-turbocharged 362-horsepower engine that scored the best 0-60 mph time of the contestants, while also registering the top fuel efficiency. Inside, the three rows of luxurious seats can accommodate seven adults, and every passenger has access to a padded armrest, cupholder and reading lights. A standard power liftgate and power-folding third row seats, combined with the 60/40 split second row, accommodates up to 93.8 cubic feet of cargo space. Passengers can easy access the third row seating, thanks to large side doors and easy-entry second row seats.
This was the first-ever 10Best Trucks and SUVs competition, so Car and Driver editors needed to adjust their normal procedure for choosing entries. Next year, they will follow their established protocol of only inviting the prior year’s winner and vehicles that either are new or have undergone significant updates.
