Check out five cars that were the fastest automobiles of their day. Oh, look- they’re all made by Mercedes-Benz.

The latest of the lot, the Mercedes-AMG GT R, is a remarkable feat of automotive engineering. The 2018 model's 4.0-liter V8 powers it from 0 to 62 in 3.6 seconds, producing 577 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. You can get speeds up to 198 mph through the straights.

The 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R is built with lightweight materials- lots of carbon fiber- for a masterful power-to-weight ratio. Its AMG RIDE CONTROL® suspension and AMG TRACTION CONTROL® are handed over to the street directly from the racetrack, giving you superior power transfer and handling through corners.

The Mercedes-AMG GT R reads so much like a racecar that it’s easy to forget you’ll actually be able to take this thing on the roads. This car is due to arrive in summer 2018, and we can hardly wait.
