2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA vs 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB

Serving McKinney, TX

The Mercedes-Benz GLA models truly introduced the subcompact luxury SUV to the United States. The GLA continues as a top-selling small SUV to the present day. It's full of standard features and is available in an all-wheel-drive version. It's quite a size jump to the GLC models, so the automaker has introduced the new GLB, also a subcompact but with a boxy shape that results in a large, comfortable cabin. Both of these models can be spruced up a bit via the addition of package add-ons.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA can be purchased as the 250 or the 250 4MATIC® with all-wheel-drive. Both versions are powered by a turbocharged 2.0L engine that produces a total of 208 horsepower. Transmission is a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic. Power response is magnificent, and the vehicle handles nicely around the tight turns. The new 2020 GLB model is powered by a turbocharged engine as well, but this one makes a total of 221 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The extra power is needed because the GLB model is a bit heavier than the GLA. This model also comes in the 4MATIC® version for those who want all-wheel drive. Acceleration on the GLB is surprisingly quick. The vehicle goes from a full stop to 60 mph in just six and one-half seconds, better than the average for a small SUV with a four-cylinder engine, turbocharged or not.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA has a sleek appearance, and the roofline slopes ever so gently to the rear. It doesn't have a lot of ground clearance, but this makes for easy entry and exit. The power liftgate is standard. Some stand-alone options include LED headlights and a panoramic sunroof. Overall, buyers are pleased with the appearance of this subcompact because it looks more significant than it is. However, small size does have its advantages. The GLA parks in the tiniest of spaces, and it has a very tight turning radius. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB is a bit longer and has a taller roofline, and it gets even longer if the three-row version is chosen. It has a boxy appearance, tall windows, and wide-opening doors for easy entry. This model gets LED headlights as standard equipment, and like the GLA, it comes with a power liftgate.

Both versions of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA are identical on the inside, the difference being in the drivetrain only. The front seats are power-adjustable, and the upholstery is simulated leather. The 8-inch central display screen is easy to navigate, and the six-speaker audio system is of very high quality. The Multimedia package includes navigation, smartphone app integration, and voice controls. The Premium package adds on heated front seats, keyless entry and ignition, and blind-spot monitoring. The rearview camera is standard, and the Driver Assistance package comes with adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist. Buyers can also get leather upholstery and a harman/kardon® 1 sound system. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB boasts sliding and reclining rear seats, simulated leather upholstery, and the MBUX infotainment system with smartphone app integration. Safety systems include a rearview camera and forward-collision warning. The buyer can bundle several different packages to get all of the available driver-assist goodies.
